Lawn Restoration After Stump Removal

🌳 Step-by-Step Lawn Restoration After Stump Removal

1. Clear the area. After removing large stumps, a lot of mulch remains. A large amount of mulch will prevent the grass from taking root and will deprive it of nutrients. We recommend moving it to a convenient location and making compost, which will be useful when planting new trees and shrubs. Mulch from stump grinding can be used like regular mulch, but don’t forget to fertilize the plants – they will need nitrogen and phosphorus.

If the stump was small, there will be little mulch. Simply compact the soil well to level the ground.

2. Assess the size of the hole. Check the size and depth of the remaining hole. After removing large stumps, deep depressions may form, requiring more backfill.

3. Fill the hole. It’s not necessary to fill the hole with fertile soil to its full depth. Grass has shallow roots. Therefore, a layer of garden soil 4-6 inches thick is sufficient.

4. Sowing or laying sod. Distribute the seeds evenly, cover with a thin layer of soil or straw. You can also lay ready-made sod to speed up lawn restoration.

5. Water regularly. Young grass is very sensitive to drought and can die from lack of moisture. We recommend watering every day in sunny weather, and every other day if it’s cloudy and cool. Also, make sure the soil doesn’t become waterlogged.

6. Be patient. The lawn will be fully restored next year. In the meantime, the young grass needs care and attention.

👉 With the right approach, your lawn will look flawless, without any traces of the old stump.
