You’ve removed the stump, cleared away all the mulch, and now you’re left with a hole. The question is, what to fill it with? How to choose the right material for backfilling?

Construction.

Usually, any well-compacted topsoil is suitable. We recommend consulting with the builder to avoid problems.

Lawn restoration.

We ourselves use and recommend filling the hole with fertile garden soil. This way, the fresh grass will take root faster and be thicker and healthier. This option is also suitable for flowers and small shrubs with shallow roots. They are less dependent on soil quality and will have enough nutrients for development from the garden soil.

Planting a new tree or shrub.

This option requires a little preparation. The tree whose stump we just removed has significantly depleted the soil over its many years of life. The sapling may not have enough nutrients for healthy growth, even if you fill the hole with good fertile soil. It is necessary to restore the acid-base balance and saturate the area with nutrients. Add compost or organic fertilizer to the bottom of the hole and fill the hole with soil. For best results, don’t rush and wait a few months before planting the sapling.

If you skipped this step and planted the tree immediately after grinding the stump, the problem can be solved by regularly applying fertilizers. Do not neglect this. Good, proper fertilization will support the health of the sapling. Without nutrients, it will die.

The area requires attention. Regularly water the planted plants so that they take root better. After some time, the soil may settle slightly – add more soil.
